I'm the next Rachel Ray!
This week I have made 2 recipes out of the Rachel Ray Cookbook. First Mike and I made "Cashew, God Bless You" Chicken and then tonight I made Enchiladas with Mole red sauce! Look at me be all domestic! It's a miracle. (Although on the cashew chicken the other night I had a little incident with the knife and Mike had to finish dinner because I had to stop the bleeding (way gross and Painful!) So atleast I know I'm marrying a potential chef! Rachel Ray get out of the way! Because in the kitchen, Sommer is No Bummer!! And cooking is what Mike likes!

First teacher story EVER!
Today was my first lesson. EVER! It was on Simplifying and Comparing Fractions in a 6th period Pre- Algebra class.(easy enough, right?) However, everything that could have gone wrong WENT wrong and More!
So these are my Top Five Reasons why my first lesson became quite the disaster in a matter of 35 minutes:
1) My resident teacher was sick today so there was a substitute which automatically makes students extra squirrily
2) The substitute remarkably resembles Abraham Lincoln which we come to find out works in his favor as he is an actor in historical reenactments where he plays the 16th President of the United States. He decides to take 25 minutes of the period to explain this along with the meaning behind Mr. Lincoln's "four score" speech
3) Because of this drawn out tangent of the Lincoln inside of him, I am left with 35 minutes to do my lecture and have the students complete their classwork
4) I begin to give my lesson and the substitute attempts to "help" minimize the talking of the students by talking over me and telling them to be quiet. Leaving the students confused as to what teacher to listen to and completely undermining my authority as a teacher.
5) The students decided to erase the substitute's real name and replace it with Mr. Lincoln. So at the end of the lesson I refer to the substitute as "Mr. Lincoln" and the students burst out laughing. (that one was pretty funny though- you have to admit)
So as for now, I figure the lessons can only get better from here. So we shall see when I give my second lesson on Wednesday. Hopefully the only Lincoln I'll be seeing is the one in my wallet. :)

RIP Louise the Crab
So, Thomas and Silvia were getting ready to go to bed the other night when all of a sudden Silvia yelps, "Thomas! There is a huge spider crawling across the floor! You HAVE to get it!". Thomas gets closer to it and turns on another light and realizes it's Louise the crab, not a spider! She had CRAWLED from upstairs in my room on my desk (where the fish tank and her home is located), down 20 stairs around the corner and heading toward the kitchen! What an adventurer!
Thomas picked up Louise and put her back in my fish tank. Sadly I thought Louise had died and so I turned off the filter a few days prior. (I hadn't seen her in a week or so - because she was out roaming the house!)
Yesterday, I saw Louise at the bottom of the tank not moving and so she is now in little crabby heaven. (which unfortunately I am quite thankful about) I didn't want her to get inspired and crawl over to my bed to cuddle!
Although Louise is no longer with us, at least she went out with the greatest adventure of her life.

This girl tri'ed
I DID THE TRIATHALON! I FINISHED! So amazing... I couldn't beleive it myself! And I couldn't have done it without my sister in law and most amazing friend BECKY! whoop whoop!
Here are my stats:
Swim 00:13:24.0 (my favorite part of the whole event)
Transition 1 00:05:38.4 (I got REALLY dizzy after the swim so I had to take it easy so I wouldn't fall over right when I got on the bike)
Bike 01:32:33.3 (time posted online is 20 minutes more due to bad luck with Becky's bike tire which we had to fix before we could continue the race!)
T2 00:00:16.2 (record timing! especially when your brother and fiance pick up your bike for you!)
Run 00:53:28.1 I would not have survived the run without Becky! She was my little encourager and it was so amazing to have her there! I couldn't believe she waited for me to start her run and we even passed 5 people! I totally slowed her down on the run but we totally kicked butt together! GOO TEAM PERRY!
Finish = about 2 hours and 38 minutes!!! SO EXCITING! I finished! It was a miracle!

We made our debut together tonight at the Petersons, it was a beautful thing... walking sitting, laughing, dancing foot and foot.

I've got some bling to wear on my finger!
So yesterday (Sat. June 16, 2007) Michael and I got engaged! Horray! Here is our story!
A few months ago Michael told me he was going to go on a "trip to Boston" with his friend Steve for Steve's company. He mentioned it several times and finally figured out the dates a few weeks ago. It came to the day when he was going and he was flying out of Santa Rosa airport on a small plane that Steve's company owns. I drop him off at Steve's work and they were going to take a shuttle over to the airport. Meanwhile, Steve's wife (Heather) and I planned a girly day of fun where we totally spoil ourselves.
Heather and I started out our amazing day with breakfast at Omelet express. The place was packed and we ended up getting in with no wait at all!
Next we went to the mall and went SHOPPING! We went into Macys and Heather suggested we get our makeup done. We decided the only way to determine what makeup counter we were going to go to was by looking at who had the best lip gloss selection. It was undoubtedly MAC and so we perused over the makeup waiting to be helped. The woman came over and told us there were two people that had an appointment to get their make up done but if they did not show up we could take their appointment. Sure enough, they didn't show up!! I got my makeup done by Daniel who had more makeup on than I had ever seen on ANYONE in my life. This made me a little nervous because I wanted a very simple look.
After we went shopping we went and got tasty Sushi at Shogun Japanese Restaurant. Next we went to the greatest place on earth… Target! Outside of the doors was the radio station HOT 98.7. Heather spun the wheel and won! So she got to choose between a gift certificate or a tank top that said "I'm a Flirt". I tried to convince her to get the latter (because that would be awkward) but she went with the gift certificate to Mike at the Crossroads. After Target we realized it was already 3pm and we still had to get our pedicure!
We go over to Fulton Nails and ask how long the wait will be. The manager tells us 30 minutes to an hour and we say we cannot wait that long because we had things to do! As we were getting ready to leave he stopped us and changed his answer to 20 minutes. We took him up on this offer and later found out we took two very unhappy ladies' places who previously scheduled an appointment.
Pretty footed and all, we head back to Heather's house to scrapbook. As we pull into the driveway we both get out of the car and Heather begins pulling me to the side yard telling me this whole day was a hoax. She says there is a greater surprise waiting for me and I knew then THIS IS IT! In disbelief I begin to cry and Heather encourages me to head down the steps. Every few steps leading to their lush backyard was a single pink rose and there was a sign posted "Follow the Roses". At the Bottom of the first set of stairs was a picture frame of Michael and me. As I continued down the stairs I looked back at Heather and told her this was kind of scary and asked her if I should pick up the roses. Heather advised me to just take it slow which calmed me down a little. Feeling the tears down my cheek I realized I was "a crier" and anticipated what was to come.
As I turned the corner at the bottom of the first set of stairs I see Michael wearing a black suit with a pink tie. I feel a sense of relief and the tears finally begin to retract. I continue down and see the rest of the picture frames he has put out and finally reach him. My hands shaking he tells me he is obviously not going to Boston and he has been doing a lot of lying the past few weeks. He admits he went down to ask for my parents blessing last week instead of "hanging out with his friends." He tells me he loves me and then popped the big question! I said "yes, of course", and then he told me he had several other surprises in store for me tonight!
He said earlier he went to my house and had Jen and Silvia pick out some fancy clothes for me to wear tonight. We were going to go to a French restaurant in Sebastopol with Steve and Heather. We all get dressed up and head over for dinner. I got "Halibut cheeks" (basically I just got it for the name) and they were delightful!
We then part ways with Steve and Heather and head to our next destination. Michael and I end up going back to the Silewicz's house (where I currently live) and as I walk through the door I see my whole family, Michael's family and the Silewicz family waiting for our arrival. We give our hugs, take pictures, eat tasty cheesecake with fresh raspberries and blackberries and everyone makes a toast for us.
It was the most perfect day and I actually cannot believe Michael kept it a secret for so long. Of course, he told EVERYONE else so basically I have no one to tell except this blog (just kidding). But I am so excited to plan a wedding and start a life together!
